hi I'm dr. Maribel Garcia superintendent of the El Monte City School District earlier this week we announced that we will be reopening our schools on April 19th 2021 the decision to reopen schools was based on multiple factors including vaccine availability to Educators results from parent and staff questionnaires the success of Extended Learning pods all of you we have made on our campuses for a safe return as well as an ample supply of personal protective equipment and Los Angeles County Department of Public Health projects the Los Angeles County will enter the right here very soon I know many of you have questions regarding our reopening plan and most of them will be answered at your schools reopening meetings these meetings will be held virtually and you can find more information from your principal on parent square or your school website after the school meeting commitment form will be sent to parents and Guardians so you can decide whether to return in person or keep your children in distance learning through the end of the school year are reopening will take place in phases to allow students and staff the opportunity to acclimate to being back campus properly parents will be able to choose whether their children will either return to school as part of our hybrid model or remain in distance learning students in our hybrid model will begin returning to campus on April 19th starting with K through 3rd grade Head Start will have a staggered reopening starting on April 20th fourth through sixth grade will return on Monday April 26th and 7th and 8th grade will return on Monday May 3rd as long as Kansas counties color to your data allows it currently Los Angeles County must remain in the red tier for 7th and 8th grade students to return to campus we will keep you updated on the status of 7th and 8th grade in the weeks to come the safety of our staff the students has been our top priority access and availability of the vaccines was very important to us I'm proud to announce that we've been able to secure vaccination opportunities for El Monte City School District employees through various Partnerships in the commute I want to thank our partners at East Valley Community Health Center Los Angeles County Office of Education and City of Hope Medical Center for their health and vaccinating or employees each of our campuses can two major updates since March of last year we've identified key entry and exit points at each campus along with posting signage around the campus of students and staff at here to six feet of physical distancing throughout the day temperature check stations will be identified and shared with all parents students and staff no one will be permitted to enter any school location without a proper face covering and temperature check Facebook Rings must be worn on campus at all times in addition we will be asking all students parents and staff to conduct daily self checks prior to coming to school each classroom will feature Newport high-efficiency air purifiers equipped with medical grade HEPA filters we've designed manufactured and secure dust shields for every student desk at East Campus all student desks have been spaced out in accordance with CD CN County covid-19 guidelines school district have received new foot operated hand washing stations add motion sensored bottle filling stations to limit high-touch surfaces last week each school will be stocked with an ample supply of personal protective equipment known as PPE PPE includes face coverings face Shields disinfecting wipes disposable sanitizer cleaning supplies and multiple probiotic Foggers to help disinfect surfaces and all indoor spaces and high traffic areas throughout our campuses contact Tracy will be conducted by the school nurse or other health department staff members in the event of an exposure close contacts will be notified that their child was exposed to a person who tested positive for code if you do not receive a phone call or this means your child was not identified as a close contact per CDC guidelines principals will be sharing more details on protocols at they're reopening meetings rest assured we will be following CDC State and County guidelines regarding contact racing and quarantining in the event of an exposure I want to share with you that children have been on our campuses since the fall as part of our Extended Learning pods currently we have over 600 chill can iPods with no confirmed cases student-to-student or student-to-staff covet Ranch Mission we've accomplished this by following strict kovats safe guidelines and we're proud of our staff and students for doing everything they can to keep each other safe I know there are still questions you probably have especially regarding school schedules necessary materials recess and more all of these questions will be addressed in your principal meetings next week if you find yourself have more questions after the meetings please don't hesitate to I talked to your school principal or my office here at the district I'm excited that reopening is finally here and I can't wait to get the opportunity to welcome our students back to campus
