GATE (Gifted and Talented Education)
El Monte City School District (EMCSD) supports gifted and talented students through the school district’s Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) framework. Research suggests that the MTSS framework is highly effective in cultivating these students’ extraordinary capabilities and supporting their unique needs.
According to the National Association for Gifted Children, “Giftedness, intelligence, and talent are fluid concepts and may look different in different contexts and cultures.” EMCSD supports unique and equitable access for high-achieving and underachieving students who are identified as gifted and talented.
EMCSD’s Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) Program is intended to nurture these students’ special talents, abilities, and interests and extend their individual educational experiences to reach their fullest potential.
EMCSD is committed to providing differentiated, in-depth, complex, and accelerated opportunities for all gifted and talented students. EMCSD offers a GATE Program for eligible students in grades three through eight. Students who have been identified as meeting EMCSD’s GATE Program identification criteria are invited to participate in the GATE Program. Students in kindergarten through second grade are not formally identified as gifted and talented but are challenged to their highest potential.
Our students are challenged every meeting by learning new things relating to science, cooking, storytelling, and so much more.
