Nutrition Services & Before School Learning!
Last month, students in our Before-School Program at Wilkerson, Wright, Cherrylee, and Cortada learned how healthy nutrition habits are related to heart health! As part of our lessons, students get to sample healthy foods to ensure their bodies have the nutrition needed to stay active and ready for the day!

March is NATIONAL NUTRITION MONTH!
On Wednesday March 13th, 2024 the Academy and Dietetics celebrates Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Day. As the nation’s food and nutrition experts, RDs and RDNs are committed to improving the health of their patients, clients and communities. In school nutrition, RDs and RDNs are committed to improving students’ and staff’s well-being by bringing nutrition awareness to the entire district’s community! Here are some easy meal reminders from our RDs and RDNs!
- Try not to skip meals: Going too long without eating increases the risk of feeling starved, which will lead to overeating on the most convenient foods available (not always the most nutritious ones). Try to set meals around the same time each day and plan for snacks.
- Eat slowly: Taking your time when eating will help your body recognize where you are on the hunger scale (see image below). Your body will tell you when you are satisfied or full (around a 7 or 8). This will then help you decide if your body needs more food.
- Pay attention to portion size: Providing modest portions allows us to check in with our bodies to see if we are full or need more food to be satisfied. Every infant, child and adult has different nutritional needs and their portion sizes.
